Karen’s English Toffee

Ingredients
1/2 c water
2 c butter
3 oz almonds, slivered
1/2 c corn syrup, white
2 1/2 c sugar
12 oz chocolate chips or grated chocolate bar
1 c walnuts, finely chopped

Directions
In a heavy pan, mix the first five ingredients together and cook on medium to high heat, stirring constantly. Cook until almonds turn a walnut color and test for hard crack stage (approx 300 F). Pour onto buttered, or covered in parchment, cookie sheet and sprinkle with chocolate. Press walnuts on top of chocolate. Chill and break into pieces.
