Texas Sheet Cake

Cake

2 c flour
2 c sugar
4 Tbsp cocoa
½ c shortening
1 c water
½ c buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt

Frosting

½ c butter
4 Tbsp cocoa
6 Tbsp milk
1 lb powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a large bowl, mix flour and sugar until combined.  In a saucepan over low-medium heat, bring cocoa, shortening, and water to a boil.  Add remaining cake ingredients and mix well, then thoroughly incorporate flour and sugar mixture.  Pour onto an edged cookie sheet or jellyroll pan (prep with spray and flour, or lined with parchment) and bake for 25 minutes.

When cake is almost done baking, bring butter, cocoa, and milk to a boil, then add powdered sugar.  Remove from heat and add vanilla.  Blend frosting until smooth.  Frost cake straight out of the oven with hot frosting.  Allow to cool before serving.

Time to make:  30-45 minutes
